Nearly 25 years after the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) was initiated, the Massachusetts Nursing Council on Workforce Sustainability (NCWS) revisited the impact and effectiveness of the NLC to facilitate interstate work for nurses. The NLC enables nurses to practice in person or provide telenursing services to patients across the country without obtaining additional licenses. The NCWS found that the compact would enhance Massachusetts’s ability to address staffing needs more readily, particularly for the nurse specialties most sought during pandemics, natural disasters, or other crises.
